While walking through the back streets in Cordoba one day, we passed an open doorway to a courtyard that was obviously a construction scene. Often I find these work sites an excellent opportunity to get a rare glimpse into the construction materials and methods of historic structures that I would never get to see otherwise. Ever curious, I ducked under the plastic barrier tape and peeked inside the dark patio. As my eyes adjusted to the light, my curiosity was rewarded with this scene. I would have loved to stay longer, to linger and explore the space. The rich history of the place was evident in the columns, the old crumbling brick walls, the weathered wood and rusted iron railings all beckoned me deeper, but the approaching workman’s voices said otherwise.
